Description: The film, narrated by Paul Newman, follows Father Christopher Hartley, a fiery Spanish priest, as he organizes Haitian cane-cutters on Dominican sugar plantations. It portrays the near-slavery conditions facing the workers and families and exposes the tactics taken by offended capitalism in an attempt to crush any potential political awakening. Rev. Simon Bautista Betances, a native Domincan priest serving in Diocese of Washington, and Bette Rainbow Hoover, founder of CASA de Maryland and Just Peace Circles will lead the discussion.
